An exercise in liberation from self-censorship

Is it just my imagination but do I pick up an unmistakeable sense of  self-superiority ("looking down one's nose at others") in many African-American women--no matter how unprepossessing they are?

In fact, it would seem the more rotund the figure, the prouder some of these women seem to be (I'm a big, black woman, yes, and I'm proud of it)?

You're not supposed to have or think such thoughts in Seattle and other large cities.

I don't have any idea what she's thinking.
I wish I understood body language.
